It is Spring!

I planted onion seeds on our anniversary in late February.  I'm so romantic.

Never knew that onions unfolded and the seed ends up in the air...

They are now about 3 inches tall.  My plan is to grow them and transplant into the new raised beds I am creating this year.  They probably will get leggy, but I'll plant some seeds also to get a staggered harvest and see how they grow.
I also built a little green house out of "culled" (love that term) scraps from the Home Despot, leftover plastic window insulation and some plumbing pieces.

It's a bit wonky, but don't hate on creativity!

Chamomile has also chosen to make an appearance.  I'm going to plant as much as I can in my garden, as last year I didn't and only was able to harvest about 1/2 c. of the flowers.  You can't make much tea or hair rinse out of that!
Tiny little buggers.

My dear hubby has also gotten on the band-wagon and collected some random 2x4s from work that I will be making into some raised garden beds in our yard.  This next weekend will be splendid, so hopefully we can get them cut and put together.  I'll post about that later.

Boozy Beets?

I'm reading up on lacto-fermenting vegetables, in preparation for my abundant harvest I'm hoping for this year.  One random article said, "Just be careful not to cut beets too small as they contain a lot of sugar and can produce alcohol."  Hmm...beet wine anyone?  Does it exist?  Further research is needed on this one! *** Oh good Lord...it does exist!  http://jinman2871.wordpress.com/2009/08/12/beet-wine/   from randomly searching and found the Prairie Girl blog!

Summer Project!

Nothing to do with diabetes here, I just wanted to show the awesome cabinet I found on Craig's List and hope to be picking up tonight!  It'll be my summer project, and Jeff has already said 'you'll never finish it' oh but I will.  We desperately need the storage in our kitchen and there's a big, empty wall that needs something on it too.  Here it is, not lookin' too hot.  The red paint is actually glass in the cabinets.  I'm very excited.  It needs a good re-furbishing...not sure what finish I want it in, any ideas?

Beautiful Boudoir-Step 1, The Dresser

I am finally redoing our bedroom.  It is currently the ugly, rental-house beige that was badly applied.  I have decided to use a all-over wall stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils to highlight one wall. This is the one I ordered!   I have decided on the paint colors, a pale fleshy-mauve color and the stencil is a darker mauve color.  There are splotches on every wall.  I'm hoping to buy the gallons in the next week or so. This weekend I am re-painting our dresser (my Grandmother's Minneapolis Lugar Furniture Company , circa early 1900's-though not as fancy as the ones shown on the website) BLACK with worn edges and I'm going to use Briwax to antique it.  I hope to get some vintage hardware too-maybe some crystal knobs to add to it.  I'm not usually one to cover nice wood pieces, as it does have a nice grain, but the top is missing most of the stain due to my sisters and I spilling nail polish remover all over it and coveri...
