I dream of lemons...

I had lemon trees in my dream last night.  Obviously, we weren't living in MN in this dream.

I have starting my veggie seeds on my kitchen table, a couple each week and now the table is full.  We have to eat in the living room.

Last night I designed my gardens on paper, which actually worked out pretty well.  In my front patio garden, I don't think there will be the vast multitudes of flowers like last year (I planted hundreds!) but I plan on filling in all of the spaces around the tomatoes and peppers with flowers so it is full.  I don't like to see dirt or grass clippings amongst my plants.  Too dirty.

But all of this plant thinking during the day is impeding on my dreaming!  I think I am meant to live in one of those 2-3 growing season states someday, according to my dreams.

Boozy Beets?

I'm reading up on lacto-fermenting vegetables, in preparation for my abundant harvest I'm hoping for this year.  One random article said, "Just be careful not to cut beets too small as they contain a lot of sugar and can produce alcohol."  Hmm...beet wine anyone?  Does it exist?  Further research is needed on this one! *** Oh good Lord...it does exist!  http://jinman2871.wordpress.com/2009/08/12/beet-wine/   from randomly searching and found the Prairie Girl blog!

Doughnut Low

Being diabetic and having a low blood sugar isn't always a bad thing... Like today when I went for my daily soda there was a little custard-filled, chocolate-glazed, doughnut calling my name.  I bought it with the thought, "I feel like I may be low and I sorta hope I am!"  I was.  BG of 49.  Ha.  Good timing.   It was delicious.  The pudding is my favorite part.    I wonder sometimes if our psyches get the better of us type-1s because having a low = a treat sometimes.  Growing up without being able to eat whenever/whatever treats we wanted, maybe now, subconsciously, our bodies give a little "woo hoo, I'm low, eat something yummy!  Screw those icky glucose tabs!"

Summer Project!

Nothing to do with diabetes here, I just wanted to show the awesome cabinet I found on Craig's List and hope to be picking up tonight!  It'll be my summer project, and Jeff has already said 'you'll never finish it' oh but I will.  We desperately need the storage in our kitchen and there's a big, empty wall that needs something on it too.  Here it is, not lookin' too hot.  The red paint is actually glass in the cabinets.  I'm very excited.  It needs a good re-furbishing...not sure what finish I want it in, any ideas?
